Guild of Charlotte Artists/Queen City Art JOINT MEMBERS ONLY SHOW - CALL TO ARTISTS

Submission Due January 20th

Exhibition Dates: Opening Reception February 14th and runs through March 6th

THEME

The Guild of Charlotte Artists (GCA) and Queen City Art (QCA) are pleased to present a collaborative, members-only exhibition exploring the theme Heritage.

Artists are invited to reflect on the stories, traditions, places, people, and cultural legacies that shape identity—personal, communal, historical, or imagined. “Heritage” may be interpreted broadly and can include explorations of ancestry, migration, memory, craft, landscape, community history, cultural inheritance, or the evolution of identity over time. Both traditional and contemporary perspectives are welcome.

This exhibition celebrates the shared creative community of both organizations and highlights the diverse voices, experiences, and artistic practices represented among our memberships.

Artists may also include an optional six-word (maximum) description to accompany the titled work. Inspired by the idea of the six-word story—often attributed to Ernest Hemingway’s “For sale: baby shoes, never worn”—this brief text can serve as a poetic or narrative layer that complements the artwork.

If included, the six-word description may evoke memory, lineage, place, identity, or inheritance, and should not exceed six words. The description is intended to enhance the viewer’s experience but is not required for submission.

Titles and any optional six-word descriptions will be displayed with the artwork as part of the exhibition.

Curated Exhibition & Selection Process

This is a curated exhibition. Submission does not guarantee acceptance.

All eligible submissions will be reviewed by the exhibition curators, Mikel Frank, President of the Guild of Charlotte Artists, and Kate McAllister, Executive Director of Queen City Art. Approximately 40 works will be selected for inclusion in the exhibition.

Selections will be based on artistic quality, interpretation of the Heritage theme, and how works function together cohesively within the overall exhibition.

We appreciate the time and care artists put into their submissions and thank all members who choose to participate.

This is a members-only exhibition. Artists must be a current member of the Guild of Charlotte Artists, Queen City Art, or both organizations at the time of submission.
